The Tooth Fairy Came to Visit

Sam lost his first tooth last Sunday (Nov. 6).  He's had two loose teeth for a couple of months and I decided last Sunday was the day he should lose the first one.  It was so loose I was afraid he was going to lose it, and not find it, at school the next day...so, he let me pull it out.  There were no tears, but he was a little stunned.  That night, going to bed, he crawled in my lap and seemed sad.  He told me he didn't want to lose his tooth and he wanted to just stay five forever.  It surprised me to see him react this way but the description of the book Truman's Loose Tooth by Kristine Wurm quickly came to mind..."This time is surrounded with such excitement and anticipation, yet it is often the child's first experience with loss, a change in their physical appearance that will never be the same. That change is in their smile."

Sam was a little concerned with how the tooth fairy would get in our house.  I told him she was magic.  He decided she probably has a magic key that works on everyone's house.  And apparently she does...she made it in our house successfully and brought Sam one dollar.  He was very excited and proud of his dollar and even told me he heard the buzz of the tooth fairy's wings during the night but didn't wake up because he didn't want her to go away.  The following day he got to go to the toy store with Gran to get a toy with his money from the tooth fairy and some birthday money (and little of Gran's money too)...which was all part of his master plan.  I guess there are no worries about not having enough money for something when you have a grandparent with you.

He's been showing the hole in his mouth to everyone who will take a look.
