We spent last weekend in Broken Bow, Oklahoma with friends. It's a trip we usually take once a year, but haven't gotten to since Ben was born. The dads took the kids fishing at the pond where our cabins were...which lasted all of about 20 minutes (for the kids)...but, John hooked a nice fish within the first few minutes and Sam got to help reel it in. John tried to get Sam to hold the fish, but he got a little scared by the fish's "teeth" and dropped him...oops!
The best thing about the weekend, aside from the fish excitement, was just watching the kids be kids...they got to run and play outside all day with very little entertainment needed. Running back and forth between our cabin and our friend's, playing with rocks and sticks and caterpillars, sitting in the dirt making roads and discussing who knows what...just plain and simple fun! We did take a train ride in the State Park and go for ice cream, and we were close enough to civilization to be able to go get breakfast on Saturday morning when we lost power in our cabin.
