Ben is 1!

(Ben turned 1 last Sunday, December 19)

Sweet Ben-
We can't believe you're a year old!  You are growing up so fast, but dad and I were talking the other day and looking at pictures of Sam at your age and he seemed so much older than you do now.  I think we baby you more...well, because you're our baby and because you let us.  You love to be held and love to snuggle (particularly with mommy).  I love when you tuck your arms in and snuggle into my neck when I'm holding you...you will actually do this with other people too.  You like to snuggle so much more than your brother did, which was NONE!
Dad wants to know when you're going to start talking...I want to know when you're going to start walking.  I think you have a few words..."ma", "da", and "uh" (for uh-oh)...but that's it.  Dad doesn't even think you use these words consistently for the correct person/thing.  You're getting close to walking.  You took 5 steps before falling several days ago and will take a few steps in a row on a regular basis.  You love to push your walker around and have recently begun enjoying holding our hands to walk around.  You will even walk holding one hand.  We just all thought you were going to be such an early walker since you rolled over early and crawled early.
You've started pointing a lot lately and will point to things you want.
You love to scream, squeal, and screech with your brother...it's almost like a secret language you two have and you can pick your brother's scream out of a crowd and you respond to it.
You love to play like your brother does...pushing cars and trucks around, speeding up and down the hall, and tackling Big Blue Dog.
You have major stranger anxiety.
You love to eat and really love cold whole milk.
You give sweet open mouth kisses.
You love music and will bob your head and clap your hands or slap your knees when you hear music...or sometimes when you don't.
You're a great sleeper...6 pm to bed and 7ish am awake.
You love your brother dearly and laugh with him like no one else.
Patient...you're a pretty patient little guy.  Dad thinks this is an indication that you might have the patience to enjoy his beloved fly fishing.
You will snuggle in bed with us on weekend mornings and wait patiently for your breakfast...although, your patience ends when you see, smell, or get near any food.
You are no longer a quiet little mouse in public...you talk and "voice" your feelings with screams when necessary.
You're starting to "voice" your feelings and opinions much more every day.  You have begun throwing fits when you don't want to do something...like get your diaper changed.  And it's pretty funny.  You can arch your back and hold yourself in that arch on your head and feet for quite a while.
You still have blue eyes and (sort of reddish) blonde hair.  People often say you look like Pop.
We often call you "billy goat" because you eat paper and paper towels.

We had a fun "Hot Chocolate and Treats" party with our friend, family, Vixen and Santa for you on Sunday to celebrate and sing your very first Happy Birthday To You.

Vixen...at your birthday party

Cake...here you seemed to like it, but at times you acted as if it were too sweet.

Two hands!

Riding the trike with brother...the tricycle was brother's first birthday
and present and Nana and Pappi added the extra seat to it for your first birthday!

We are enjoying you so much...you are such an easy going, laid back, little guy...and a true joy!  I just wish you wouldn't grow up so fast.  We love you sweet boy and are looking forward to the great things to come in your second year!

Happy happy birthday!

I remember talking with Marsha during Camden and Harrison's first year, and how we babied them so much more than our first borns...so opposite from what I would have thought!
