So, 6 months came and went...I was going to sit down that night and document the milestone...and then the next night...and well, it never happened. And the fact of the matter was, there just wasn't much to add to what I'd already posted. But, wow, what a difference two weeks can make...
6 1/2 months old...
Crawling has taken a turn and Ben's as close to crawling as he can possibly get without calling it crawling. He FINALLY picked up an arm, with his weight on his other arm, and put it back down without just lunging forward or falling on his belly....although lunging forward and sliding on his belly, like a seal, seems to be what he prefers. There is no more putting him in one place to stay anymore. The best is watching him try to follow his brother.
All this pushing with his feet has brought on another new skill. Week before last, Ben started pushing up to a sitting position from his hands and knees, eh, feet...except when he pushes too hard and rolls over and bonks his head on the floor.
And speaking of sitting, he's finally sitting pretty well on his own. He sat for several minutes on his own in his Play Wisely class the other day. I think he was just trying really hard to show off for his girlfriend, Taylor, who is two weeks younger than him and can sit like a champ...poor Ben still has to prop himself up on his hands for the most part though.
(Our dear photographer, Jen, is going to have to work pretty hard to try to keep up with Ben at his 6 month session in a couple of weeks...she typically says the 6 month session is her favorite because they can sit but can't go anywhere.)
And, from this pushing to sit up position, when he's kind of leaning over and propping himself up with his arm...well, the other arm...it's reaching, grabbing, trying to get something. I've seen this reaching and grabbing in his bed, pulling on the bumpers...I started having flashbacks to the time when Sam learned to pull up in his bed, then got stuck and didn't know how to lie back down. I even caught Ben at the wall the other day, while lying on his belly, with both hands reaching up on the wall like he was about to climb the wall.

Other notable things...
starting to suck his left thumb (and still sucking the right too)...wonder if he's going to be right or left handed, kisses...he'll give a good open mouth kiss if you're lucky, loves to eat his toes while lying on his back, is kind of indifferent on the solid food thing...nothing he just goes crazy over which means meals take a loooong time, he seems to be more of a watcher and a thinker than Sam was...Sam was a "Curious George" out of the chute, his most talkative time of the day seems to be the evening..before and after his bath, he likes his naps (3 a day, or 4-5 mini naps) and only likes to be up for about an hour and half before he wants to be back in his bed, loves faces...will take an eye out if you're not paying attention, Ben's eye brows get red when he's sleepy, likes to be held more than Sam did.
