A Special Trip for Sam

(I have some summer posts to get caught up on before the craziness of the school year begins...)

We did some traveling this summer, which has kept me either packing, unpacking, playing the role of a single parent, or enjoying a break myself for the past month.  The first trip was a four day get away I got to take all. by. myself to New York for my baby sister's 21st birthday.  We ate our way through the weekend from sunup to (beyond) sundown each day.  It was a great get away for me.  Just the right amount of time to get some 'me' time without being away too long.

Four days after returning from New York, John and I took Sam on a very special trip.  The boy is obsessed with trains!  We learned about a train ride from Denver to Cheyenne, WY for the Cheyenne Frontier Days...but not just any train ride...a ride on the UP 844 steam engine...historic.  Such a neat way to travel.  We walked between cars, listened to a band in the entertainment car and hung out the windows waving to people watching the old steam engine and racing down the road next to it.  There was even a biplane that chased us for a short time.  In Cheyenne we got to attend the rodeo and (Sam's favorite part) ride rides at the carnival.  It was a long day...at the end of the day Sam said, "That was a fun but tired day!"...but it was so worth it!

Pre-7 am...Getting ready to board the train!

On the train waving bye!

Starting to move...one excited little boy!
